Maskne the new skincare problem 2020
Who knew the term ‘face mask’ would have such a different meaning in 2020?!
One would think that by not having to commute daily during lockdown, pollution exposure to skin would be reduced; and by not wearing make-up would result in us all having glowing complexions! Not now as we are finding that our protective, anti-Coronavirus face masks are disturbing our skin in the form of maskne.
What is Maskne?
Breakouts, redness or irritation on the lower part of the face caused by wearing face masks.
Tips to help combat the newest skin concern that showed up uninvited

You have your morning & evening cleansing routine, but it is important to wash your face after wearing a mask.
Not only will this clean your skin of the dirt trapped under the mask, but it will also prevent the growth of acne-causing bacteria.
Choose the right mask
Now that wearing a mask has become an everyday norm, make sure you go for a re-usable cotton mask and wash them regularly.
A breathable material, such as cotton is best to reduce the amount of moisture being trapped between the mask and your skin.
Wear a Mask that fits
Find a face mask that fits your face well to avoid friction, which can cause irritation.
An antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antisporal spray that will be your new best friend if you are suffering with maskne. It is a PH neutral solution so it does not disrupt the skin barrier. Spray the

Protect the skin barrier
Apply a lightweight moisturiser to hydrate your skin, choose one that contains
hyaluronic acid to help sooth, calm and hydrate.

Control the breakouts
If you are experiencing breakouts introduce
salicylic acid into your regime. It's well-known for reducing acne by exfoliating the skin and keeping pores clear.
Make up free
Try to keep your makeup to the bare minimum to allow your skin to breathe, especially when off duty. If you have to wear make-up under your mask use mineral.
