5 Reasons Why You Should Give Yourself A Facial Once A Month

When was the last time you treated yourself to a facial at home? Everyone needs some much-needed TLC sometimes - right?

Even if you do not have blemishes, hyperpigmentation, dryness or any other problems your face needs to be pampered to keep it healthy and rejuvenated. Here are a few reasons why...

1. Cleanse and Detoxify

Facials offer deep cleansing that regular cleaning doesn't.

Our faces are exposed to an extraordinary amount of dirt, grime and pollution as we go about our daily lives.

Deep cleansing helps rid the skin of the unwanted build-up of oil, toxins, dirt, bacteria and other skin cell debris – all of which contribute to premature ageing or problem skin.

When it comes to having a clear complexion, salicylic acid should be your go-to ingredient.

It is a type of oil-soluble beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) which exfoliates the skin surface to unclog pores, eliminate excess oil and sebum that can lead to whiteheads, blackheads and other forms of blemishes.

Salicylic acid also exfoliates your skin, removing dead skin cells on the surface to improve skin tone, texture and dullness.

Our favourite salicylic acid-based facial cleanser is the award-winning DermaTx Clarify Salicylic Cleanser.

Contains 2% Salicylic acid

For a gentler exfoliating cleanser, choose DermaTx Rejuvenate Lactic Cleanser - Lactic acid is ideal for drier & more sensitive skin.

2. Exfoliation

Exfoliating the skin is the process of removing dead cells from the outer layer of your skin using an exfoliant, which could be either by using chemicals like AHA'S (peels & masks), or scrubs containing granules like crystals.

Our skin naturally sheds dead skin cells to make room for new cells every 30 days but as you age, that slows down. Exfoliating helps to remove leftover dead skin cells, revealing healthier and brighter skin.

This in turn can help improve the health of your skin as well. If your skin is covered in dead cells, skincare products will struggle to penetrate and do their work. Removing the top-most layer of skin will help your topical serums to penetrate the dermal layers to receive the maximum benefit.

Exfoliation can help with blemish-prone skin by helping clear out clogged pores that often lead to breakouts. It can also help reduce acne scars by increasing skin cell turnover and stimulating collagen production.

Our favourite exfoliating treatment is DermaTx Microdermabrasion Cream which contains both a chemical exfoliant as well as professional-grade corundum crystals, to help achieve exceptional skin resurfacing results.

There are Microdermabrasion creams to choose from:

DermaTx Brighten - Designed for uneven skin tone, sun-damaged and ageing skin.

DermaTx Rejuvenate - Designed for normal to sensitive skin

DermaTx Clarify - Designed for acne, oily skin and enlarged pores.

3. Anti-ageing
When you have performed both deep cleansing and exfoliation treatments, your skin will be ready and prepped.
Face masks, serums and creams that are enriched with potent ingredients will then help stimulate the production of collagen and reduce the signs of ageing.

Our favourite clinic grade face mask has to be Clinicare

4. Facial Massage Promotes Blood Circulation

Facial massage boosts cell regeneration and promotes collagen development, which translates into healthier and more efficient cells, rejuvenation and a glowing face.

5. Relaxing

Not only does a facial makes your skin glow, but also de-stresses and helps you relax.

Try an under-eye mask to finish off your self-care pamper session.

We have selected the ultimate luxury eye mask - the gold-infused, anti-ageing eye treatment mask from MZ Skin.
