Welcome to the April edition of Dermacare Direct's monthly newsletter keeping you up to date with new products, hot offers and top tips!

You are probably all aware of how common hyper-pigmentation, skin discolouration and uneven skin tone are. We have got some great new skin-lightening products on the market and some skincare tips to treat these for you this month. We also feature PFB Vanish, a roll-on gel formulated to aid in the relief of ingrown hairs and razor burn/bumps.


Our big news this month is….




Known for its advanced topical antioxidant serums and skincare products, Skinceuticals launches an innovative advanced product to tackle stubborn hyper-pigmentation – Advanced Pigment Corrector.

This 2013 Allure 'Best of Beauty Breakthrough Award' Winner is a daily multi-layer treatment to reduce stubborn discolouration and prevent re-occurrence. Clinically proven and tested on all ethnicities to help correct and prevent unwanted pigmentation. In addition to its efficacy in reducing the overall appearance of hyper-pigmentation and dark spots, Advanced Pigment Corrector also helps to boost the appearance of overall skin tone, evenness and radiance.

WHAT IT DOES:

The Advanced Pigment Corrector lightens dark spots and is as effective as the strongest prescription treatment available (4 per cent hydroquinone combined with prescription-strength retinol). Bonus: It reduces blotchiness and increases radiance even better than its prescription counterpart. But even more impressively, it helps keep those spots from coming back by slowing down pigment production in your skin. (Ever wonder why spots return even after you've been diligent about using sunscreen, every single day? It's because your skin produces more and more pigment the older you get—regardless of whether there's a UV ray in sight!)

KEY INGREDIENTS:
Hydroxyphenoxy propionic acid and yeast extract (inhibit melanin); ellagic acid (fights free radicals); salicylic acid (exfoliates).

Clinical study
The dermatologist-controlled clinical trial was conducted on 70 multi-ethnic subjects, ages 25-60, with twice daily application of Advanced Pigment Corrector. Clinical results showed significant improvement in the appearance of skin discolourations and dark spots while boosting skin tone evenness and radiance.

Application:
ONE PUMP TWICE A DAY should last about 3 months.

As most of our pigment lightening products are mainly for the face, I am delighted to bring you two new products for the body.



Spotner – targeted anti-sun spot treatment.

Sun spots, liver spots or age spots – call them what you will, they appear on most people at some stage. Spotner targets and erases the sun spots and protects them from further damage.

The Spotner pen is now available for the face and décolletage and also for the hands and body. Spotner contains a powerful mix of botanical extracts, alpha arbutin, alpha hydroxy acids (AHA’s), salicylic acids (BHAs) and lactic acid to help encourage the regeneration of the skin without causing irritation. The formation of new age spots will be prevented by the use of SPF 50 UV (A+B) filters in combination with different lightening substances.

Unlike creams and lotions, its precise pen-tip application means you target the treatment exactly where you need it every time.





Do you suffer from ingrown hairs? Not any more!



PFB Vanish: PFB Vanish is the first line of defence after shaving, waxing, tweezing, electrolysis and laser hair removal. PFB Vanish is a unique, cosmetically elegant roll-on gel formulated to aid in the relief of ingrown hairs and razor burn/bumps.



PFB Vanish + Chromabright: A 2-in-1 solution to provide relief for ingrown hairs while brightening skin.

Often with ingrown hair, you are left with discolouration. A skin lightener is required to help with post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation so PFB Vanish infused Chromabright into the original formula.

Glycolic, salicylic and lactic acids exfoliate the top layers of skin to allow the trapped ingrown hair to lift above the skin line. This, in addition, aids in the penetration of Chromabright to target the abnormal accumulation of melanin which is responsible for hyperpigmentation and could be a serious aesthetic problem.



New From PFB Vanish – A Two-Step Skin Lightening System

Liquid Luffa: This is an exfoliating face and body scrub with glycolic acid and papaya fruit extract. Liquid Luffa is a finely abrasive gel designed to remove dead skin cells anywhere on the body. It is to be used prior to waxing and prepping the skin for depigmentation. Glycolic acid and papaya fruit extract remove the dead, dehydrated epidermal cells to allow for greater penetration of Lumen8.

Lumen8 visibly reverses the appearance of dark spots, age spots, sun damage, pregnancy mask, post-acne scars and mild melasma after 30 to 45 days.

Tips on pigmentation

- Avoiding sun exposure and use high-grade sun blocks such as a full spectrum one (UVA, UVB and UVC). Use at least SPF 30 sunscreen to help minimise future sun damage and pigmentation. UV protection/sunscreen is paramount in the treatment of pigmentation. Apply it daily and all year round, not just in the summer.

- Apply a pigmentation lightening product twice daily to the area (containing ingredients like kojic acid, alpha-arbutin, phytic acid, SabiWhite, skin brightening peptides, vitamin C, azelaic acid, liquorice and mulberry). Make sure you apply it for at least 3 months as it does take time to work!

- Apply vitamin C every morning after cleansing, then follow with a skin-lightening product. Antioxidant (vitamin C) safeguards the skin from photo-ageing by preventing the formation of free radicals & also helps reduce melanin formation in the skin (skin pigment).

- Using exfoliants (glycolic acid, lactic acid) can also help fade pigmentation by speeding up cell turnover and accelerating the natural peeling of pigmented or dead skin cells and stimulating new skin cell growth. Maybe use a cleanser and moisturiser which contains AHA’s.

- Use Retinol at night if your pigmentation is stubborn as it increases cell turnover and exfoliation.
