Dermacare Direct Spring 2011 Newsletter

Well, over the past few months I have not had the time to add any more exciting Cosmeceuticals brands to our website, as I have been busy having a baby!!
So this newsletter may be shorter than usual, although we have still got a few new products to tell you about.

Our new website will be live very very soon. But don’t worry - it will still have the same sort of layout, so it should be easy to navigate around.
It will look better and will have new options like a products review section, where you can write your comments about the products you have used.
Please do put your comments down, as it does help others in their choice of products.
There will also be 'Recommend a friend and loyalty points schemes, for all your regular clients!

What's New?

Omnilux Clear U

In the last newsletter, I mentioned the Omnilux Clear U device, which was previously only available through a doctor.
Well, the Omnilux Clear U handheld device, which uses both blue light (kills bacteria) & red light (healing) to treat acne and is now available directly from us

Omnilux professional machines are being used in most cosmetic clinics around the world treating a wide range of dermatological conditions including acne, photodamage, non-melanoma skin cancers, skin rejuvenation, vitiligo and wound healing, post elective surgery.

Both the Omnilux New U and the Clear U handheld devices (made by Photo Therapeutics) use the same LED technology as in the professional machines but in a small, convenient, home-use package.
The head is a lot wider than most devices, so it treats a wider area and actually contains 90 LEDs, the highest number for handheld devices.

It is so easy to use.
1st course - two 20-minute sessions per treatment area per week for four weeks alternating blue and red light.
The light stimulates natural processes that continue after the treatment has stopped. Wait 2/3 months after the 1st course of treatment and then continue to maintain the results.
If required, follow on with 2 to 4 treatments every month.

The package includes the device, power supply, user manual, goggles, skincare products and 1-year warranty.
It is very good value considering it costs £60 for one session in a clinic and a course of 8 treatments is recommended!

Tanda Zap - COMING SOON!

Everyone is talking about the Tanda Zap - the Advanced acne clearing device.
Deploying a three-pronged attack on spots using heat, blue LEDs and sonic vibrations.

Clinically proven to clear or fade acne blemishes within 24 hours. It eliminates acne bacteria and helps prevent future breakouts.
This lipstick-sized, battery-powered spot-zapper is designed to target and treat pimples in less than two minutes.

ATOPICLAIR®

I just wanted to let you know of a new cream that we now stock called Atopiclair

I have just started using it on my 5-year-old son who suffers from eczema. I usually use a typical hydrocortisone based cream to clear it up, so I was keen to try a non-steroidal cream.
I found the Atopiclair to be very calming as it soothed the itching quickly. I also found that I did not need to use an additional moisturiser over the top, as I had to after using steroid-based creams.
Atopiclair is the only product that has been clinically tested and proven to be safe on babies and children while showing great results in both babies and adults.
It is a treatment of choice for eczema and extremely popular with many dermatologists who recommend it for treating such conditions, so I imagine it must be good!.
It is also approved by the FDA as a medical device.

So what is Atopiclair?

Atopiclair is a non-steroidal, skin-barrier repair cream used for the treatment of atopic dermatitis, eczema, and allergic contact dermatitis.
It helps to reduce the itching and scratching associated with these conditions. It can be used on all areas of skin and is even mild enough for the face.
Regular use of Atopiclair may reduce the need to use topical corticosteroids.
The cream is based on hyaluronic acid, telmesteine, Vitis vinifera, and glycyrrhetinic acid.
However, none of these ingredients is classified as drugs. In fact, there are no drugs active in Atopiclair at all, making it a totally natural treatment!
I am extremely pleased with the results shown on my son, and would definitely recommend this product to others who are looking for a new treatment option for similar skin conditions.

My Skincare tips

To help keep your skin looking and feeling radiant, youthful and healthy, you need to have a good daily skincare routine.
Firstly, you need to identify your skin type.
Once you have discovered your skin type, choose products that have been formulated for your skin.
Cosmeceutical products combine the power of cosmetics and medication to address all skin concerns (pigmentation, sun damage, pollution, loss of vitality, tone and firmness) and to improve the health and appearance of ageing skin.

SKINCARE REGIME:

STEP 1 - CLEANSE
The first and most important step in any skincare regime is cleansing. Cleansers are a must in order to clean your face at the end of each day, as your face is exposed to dust, pollution, smoke, and other factors that we encounter during the day. A cleanser will remove all impurities leaving your face clean and fresh again, gently exfoliating the skin to remove the dead skin cells, which can block your pores and lead to blackheads.
Products which contain AHA’s (alpha hydroxyl acids) such as glycolic acid and BHA’s (beta hydroxyl acid) such as salicylic acid, stimulate skin exfoliation down at the base of the epidermis, enhancing cell renewal. Long-term, AHA's fade unwanted pigmentation, prevent clogged pores, increase collagen production, and improve skin texture and hydration. They also help the skin to absorb other products better.

STEP 2 - PREVENT (Antioxidants)
Extrinsic ageing results from environmental factors, such as sun exposure, gravity, sleep habits, smoking and UV damage.
The key effective ingredient is Vitamin C (antioxidant) which not only protects your skin from free-radical damage but also promotes the synthesis of collagen, which improves the structural proteins within your skin and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is also an effective skin brightener and anti-inflammatory.

STEP 3 - CORRECT/TREAT
Skin concerns like pigmentation, sun damage, acne, rosacea etc. can be treated with products that contain active ingredients like kojicol acid, retinol, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic acid and many more.

STEP 4 - MOISTURISE/HYDRATE
Appropriate moisturisation is another essential for healthy and younger-looking skin.
A moisturiser provides a protective film to prevent the effect of drying, chapping and roughening caused by the weather, central heating and pollution. At the same time, some of the ingredients will be absorbed into the outer layers of the skin providing nourishment, hydration and therapeutic effects. All skin types need a moisturiser.

Dry, normal and oily skin are all affected by wind and weather. Dry skin in particular quickly becomes tight and flaky, chapping and reddening easily in winter and looking prematurely old.
You could try Skinceuticals face balm or Skinceuticals face cream or Skinceuticals A.G.E. Interrupter.
These are corrective products & moisturisers in one.

Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance already present in your body. Once in the skin, it works by creating volume. It gives natural volume to your skin to lift and produce new firmness, resulting in a healthy, youthful appearance. This skincare product is an effective moisturising agent, helping the skin to retain moisture.

If you suffer from dry skin you could try applying a B5 Gel hydrating product underneath your moisturiser.
A hydrating serum used underneath your moisturiser will penetrate deep into the skin, nourishing the bottom layer of cells so when they come to the surface they will be hydrated, plumper and brighter.
Try either the Medik8 hydr8 b5 serum or SkinCeuticals hydrating b5 gel

STEP 5 - PROTECT
Ultraviolet light, both UVB and UVA, is responsible for 80 per cent of the lifetime aesthetic damage to our skin that we see as a roughened, leathery texture, warty-looking keratoses, loss of tone, mottled discolourations and "liver spots," sallowness of complexion, wrinkles and sagging and "broken" blood vessels!
So, every healthy skincare regime must include measures to prevent the short and long-term effects of sun exposure. These involve the daily use of sunscreens with an SPF factor of at least 20.

Regular use of home-use microdermabrasion and peels or masks (1-2 times a week) helps to exfoliate the skin.
Exfoliation is an important part of your skincare regime for all skin types.
There are so many benefits with exfoliation. Primarily, exfoliation helps to remove the dead skin cells on the outer surface of the skin, which stimulates the growth of new elastic fibres & collagen in the deep basal cell layer of the dermis. These new cells are plumper, firmer and have more moisture. Revealing newer skin underneath that has a healthy and radiant glow because it has not been exposed to the elements.
By exfoliating the top skin layers it also helps for better penetration of other treatments and skin products to get further into the skin so they can be more effective.
