ACNE TIPS

I regularly get advice emails from both men & women of all ages who suffer from acne, especially women in their later years.
The acne cycle is the same at any age. Hormones prompt the oil glands to secrete oil, the pores get clogged with dead skin cells, bacteria cause the area to get red and inflamed, and you have a pimple. Teenage acne is due to the surge of hormones associated with puberty, and adult acne can be related to hormonal surges that occur with the menstrual cycle and also stress.

So what can you do to help?

For problematic skin, you need to be using products that contain AHA's or BHA's (Glycolic acid, Salicylic acid) - exfoliating products that slough away the dead surface skin, to help prevent the grease glands from clogging. This will reduce inflammation, decrease bacteria and prevent new acne eruptions.
Try a salicylic or a glycolic wash/cleanser, or if you have dry, sensitive skin, go for lactic acid instead.
A great resurfacing product by Jan Marini is the Bioclear product, which contains 3 acids - Salicylic, Glycolic and Azelaic acids. Glycolic acid resurfaces, while Salicylic Acid purges the skin of bacteria and clears out the blocked pores. Azelaic Acid helps clear blemishes while reducing redness, chronic inflammation and uneven pigmentation.

After exfoliating, we must address the bacterial component of acne. Topical Benzoyl Peroxide is a proven medication of choice for treating acne. It is the most effective antibacterial agent available.

Retinoids are also essential for preventing blemish formation and minimizing breakouts. Retinol increases cell turnover and exfoliation, and repairs and stimulates collagen and elastin (to repair & renew). Retinol is a potent tool in treating acne but may cause some irritation and sun sensitivity. Therefore, it is important to apply it at night and increase usage slowly. Always follow the instructions and apply a high factor sunscreen daily. Do not use if pregnant.

Peels and masks don’t get enough attention to acne treatment. These are terrific for addressing both existing acne and the resultant scarring when used once or twice a week.
Make it a point to use your treatments every day, as directed. Consistent use of your acne treatments is crucial for improvement.

We are now offering high-quality compression garments. There is a wide range of garments for both men & women. If there is something in the Lipoeslastic brochure which isn’t on the site, please get in touch and we will see if we can order it for you. The design and quality meet the highest requirements and are designed with the patient’s needs in mind.
Wearing a compression garment after surgery is crucial to improve blood circulation, minimize swelling, flush the body of potentially harmful fluids, accelerate the healing process, and allow you to return to daily routines sooner. If you need any further information, please email me.

To aid your recovery we are offering 10% off all our advanced silicone scar treatments throughout September.

We are official stockists of all our products. Please beware of fake or counterfeit products on eBay and unauthorised stockists websites. As official stockists, the prices of all our products are set by the distributors or manufacturers. There are a lot of sites out there slashing prices.
