10 Skincare Resolutions To Make This Year

new-you

It’s that time of year when we make resolutions, set goals and reflect on the past year.

But what about your skin? It deserves some love in this new year too! Here are our top ten beauty resolutions you should be making, that will transform your skin in 2024. These skincare changes are easy to implement into your daily skincare routine and won’t take up much of your day – but they will make a huge difference long-term. What would you like to change about your skin this year?

Here are our top ten skincare resolutions you should be making, that will transform your skin in 2024.

1/ Wear sunscreen daily!

Do you want to know the best beauty tip anyone can ever give? It's this: protect with sunscreen daily even when it is grey and cloudy outside as the damaging UVA and UVB rays can penetrate clouds and glass.

The health of your skin is important and something that we all should be concerned about. We're not only talking about wrinkles and lines, but also cancer! Applying sunscreen daily will protect you from melanoma and other forms of skin cancer while preventing the signs of ageing on your face.

Research shows that as we get older our skin becomes thinner and less elastic, so it's even more important than ever to protect your skin from damaging UV rays. The sun emits harmful UV rays that can cause long-term damage to the DNA in your skin cells which leads to premature ageing and other problems like wrinkles and age spots. So what should you do? Well first off, make sure you're wearing SPF every day no matter what time of year or where you are.

2/Stick to a skincare routine that works for you

skincare regime

Remember products take time to work; don’t start using something for a week or two, decide it isn’t working and stop it. If you start skipping between different products it will make it impossible to understand what worked and what didn’t work. And once the treatment is working don’t stop it as the problem will just come back.

3/Buy Smart

Go for cosmeceutical products rather than high street products as over-the-counter products do not contain the same high level of active ingredients as professional skincare ranges. Always buy from someone that is trained in skincare and preferably someone that is not biased about one particular brand. By following these guidelines, you can purchase smart and make sure that the skincare products you are using are actually going to help your skin!

4/Add an Antioxidant every morning into your regime

Vitamin C is a proven, beneficial addition to your skincare regime. Using a Vitamin C serum every morning can help to promote skin rejuvenation by reversing free radical damage caused by the sun and natural ageing. It is such a  powerful antioxidant with so many benefits to the skin like collagen stimulation, brightening effects, as well as being an anti-inflammatory.

Just some of the many benefits:

Reduces wrinkles
Increases collagen production
Helps reduce hyperpigmentation
Evens skin tone & brightens the complexion
Protects against pollution and  free radicals

To have healthy-looking skin at any age, Vitamin C should be an essential ingredient in your skincare routine whether you are 20 years old wishing to prevent ageing, or 50+ wishing to reverse damage to the skin!

5/Buy skincare products that you can afford

When buying skin care, select products in your price range. There is no point in using products for a couple of months then using something cheaper next time.

6/ Don't forget your body

body skincare

Along with your facial skin, you need regularly moisturise your body too. A top tip is to apply a moisturiser straight after your shower when your skin is still damp. When applied immediately after a bath or shower, the product is able to trap some of the water still on your body and use it to hydrate your skin.

7/Take off your make-up every night

cleanse

I can't stress enough how important it is to remove your make-up before you go to sleep as it can severely damage the health of your skin. It can cause clogged pores, breakouts, irritation, and rough skin texture, but most importantly, this habit leads to premature signs of ageing and bacterial buildup. Neglecting to remove eye makeup can also cause dryness, redness, irritation, and infection.

8/Exfoliate

There are so many benefits to exfoliation.  As we age our skin turnover slows down, exfoliating the dead skin cells away reveals a smooth, more even skin tone.

REJUVENATES  - Increases the elasticity of the skin, helping to plump out the wrinkles and fine lines

BRIGHTENS - Helps to even out skin tone and discolouration

STIMULATES - Stimulates natural collagen production

HYDRATES- Increases hydration levels in the skin

9/Drink more water

Skin is the largest organ in our body and thus it needs a lot of water to function optimally. Drinking plenty of water will keep the body, skin and lips hydrated which will help you flush out toxins better to achieve healthier-looking skin, problem-free skin!

Drinking plenty of water will keep cells hydrated and plump which makes the complexion look more youthful and dewy (and less wrinkled). Water flushes away toxins from the body to help achieve problem-free skin

In fact, drinking at least eight glasses of water a day throughout the year will help you flush out toxins better and keep your skin looking great all year long.

10/Mole Check

I couldn’t fail to mention skin cancer and how important it is to check your moles regularly. By doing a simple skin self-examination every month, you can improve your chances of finding melanoma early.

It’s important to take time every month to examine your skin. Doing so can help you find any potential problems before they become a bigger issue. If you have any moles that are changing in size, shape or colour, or developing an irregular border, then it is important that you see your doctor immediately. It may seem like no big deal now but many times what starts out as a harmless mole becomes cancerous and needs to be removed if it has not yet spread elsewhere. And the best way for this to happen is by catching it early on! So make sure you check yourself often and talk with your dermatologist about any changes in the appearance of your moles.
