Over the past 20 years, tremendous research has focused on certain Retinoids, particularly retinoic acid, for the purpose of treating various skin abnormalities including acne, actinic keratoses (pre-cancerous lesions) and skin changes due to photodamage and aging.
The most well known retinoic acid compound is Retin-A which was approved by the FDA for the treatment of acne and later approved for the treatment of age related skin changes to to cumulative photo-damage.
Retinol is a potent tool in treating photo-aged skin and may cause some irritation and sun sensitivity. so it is important to apply it at night and increase usage slowly, follow instructions and always apply a high sunscreen daily.
