Colorescience Total Protection Face Shield SPF50 has taken the beauty world by storm and although it can be hard to get your hands on sometimes, it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down! It is a mineral (or sometimes known as a physical) sunscreen that blends easily and beautifully into the skin.

Colorescience Total Protection Face Shield SPF50 is a super hydrating and anti-oxidant rich formula. It is completely weightless and is suitable for all skin types and tones – you just need to find the right one for you! Not only that - it is also oil-free, hypoallergenic, water-resistant and protects against blue light which is the light that electrical devices omit to cause premature ageing. Niacinamide is added as a key ingredient to help calm and soothe the complexion. All Colorescience products are cruelty-free and reef-safe too!

Ordering the perfect shade for you online can sometimes feel daunting and frustrating but it doesn’t have to be. Thankfully, Colorescience Total Protection Face Shield SPF50 has a growing family of different versions so it makes choosing all that bit easier. The most common question we get asked is whether a client should pick between the best sellers original or glow – to be honest, it is personal preference about whether you want a translucent or luminous finish but here you can see the difference on a light to medium skin tone before being blended into the skin.

You can see that the original formula, above, which is universal has a pale pink tone although once blended into the skin, it disappears and it is undetectable. Then on the right, the glow formula has a soft champagne tone. If you are darker than a tan skin tone then you may experience the product leaving a  slight ‘white cast’ immediately upon application, this is due to the Zinc Oxide, but just keep blending into the skin and this will soon disappear quickly.

Once blended, from the photographs taken, you can see the finished result. The original formula has disappeared completely into the skin and you cannot tell that there is anything on the skin. It is easy to blend, there is no greasy feeling but the skin is soft to touch from the hydrating properties.

The glow formula, once blended, leaves a subtle shimmer as if you have dusted a little highlighter over your complexion making you look fresh, awake and healthy. It also has no greasy feeling and is soft to touch from the hydrating properties. There isn’t colour as such just a lovely soft, golden sheen.

 

Another formula within the Total Protection Face Shield collection is the Bronze version which is best for dark to deep skin tones who want an undetectable finish or alternatively, you could use it to add a hint of warmth to your complexion if you have a lighter skin tone. Some clients enjoy mixing two shades together to create themselves a custom colour!

The newcomers to the family are Matte and Flex. Matte is ideal for those with an oily to combination complexion as it will help to soak up those excess oils. It will also work great if you prefer a matte finish to keep you beautifully shine-free all day long. Flex is available in 4 shades - fair, medium, tan, deep - as all Colorescience bases do, and works by perfectly adjusting to your skin type to leave you with a uniform, even skin tone. You can apply up to 3 layers (leave a minute between each layer) creating more coverage each time!

The two most important things to remember are that these are not foundations and so you don’t need to ‘colour match’ yourself as such because they will only provide a wash of colour. But also, the main purpose of these products is that they are sunscreens and adequate coverage needs to be used to achieve the full SPF 50 rather than treating them as a make-up item.
