My product review - Sigvaris fashionable compression tights

sigvaris

Compression hosiery from Sigvaris is designed to facilitate the blood flow in your veins by exerting an external Graduated Compression. Graduated Compression provides maximum pressure at the ankle, reducing gradually up the leg. There are different levels of compression available according to individual needs. Sigvaris is a family company started as a haberdashery called Ganzoni over 150 years ago. In 1958 they produced the first modern medical compression stocking for Dr. Sigg, who was studying Varices (Varicose Veins) - hence the name: SIGVARIS.

I started wearing compression tights when I became a dermatology leg specialist nurse many years ago. During that time, I dealt with many leg ulcers and varicose eczema and circulatory problems.
From that experience, I realised how important it is to look after one's legs. This was particularly relevant for me as being a nurse, I was always on my feet. I then continued to wear compression hosiery through both my pregnancies and always during long flights.

Compression garments are not solely for clients that have had leg ulcers, and can be useful for most other people as there are many benefits of wearing Graduated Compression hosiery:

•Helps increase blood circulation
•Reduce swelling, tiredness, or soreness in your legs
•Helps prevent varicose veins and spider veins
•During travel has been shown to help reduce the risk of developing blood clots (DVT)
•Prevents varicose veins in pregnancy.
•Helps slow down the development of varicose veins or chronic venous insufficiency

Most adults can benefit from compression hosiery regardless of age. Anyone who spends a great deal of time sitting behind a desk or standing up for extended periods may experience constriction of blood vessels and blood pooling in their legs and feet. They will find that graduated compression hosiery can help reduce the swelling, fatigue, and leg aches as their circulation gets a boost from the hosiery. Athletes, particularly runners, find that knee-high compression hosiery improves performance and reduces recovery time as less fatigue is felt after a work-out. Frequent travellers can wear travel socks to help prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). Many pregnant women develop venous problems, such as varicose veins and spider veins, and maternity hosiery can help prevent or minimise these problems.

I can assure you that compression hosiery is not what it used to be!
Remember the Nora Batty tan coloured prescription ones that were impossible to put on?
