How To Determine The Right Brow Shape For Your Face

brows

Brows are a key component of your facial features as they can change your overall look entirely, so it's important to find the right shape for you. Times have changed since the ultra-thin brows of the 90’s that the majority of us all had and we are now instead, in an era of desperately trying to grow them out to create eyebrow shapes that are tailored to compliment our unique facial features much better.

If you aren’t naturally blessed with your best brows and are still dealing with the aftermath of your 90’s brows then a brow growth serum such as Swiss Clinic Eyebrow Growth Serum may be the solution that you’ve always searched for. To apply, brush the applicator both upwards and downwards through your eyebrow hairs to coat as many individual hairs as possible, and then your results will start to appear within just a couple of weeks!

So, back to brow shapes, how exactly do you work out what is the best shape for your eyebrows that will complement your face the most?

What is my face shape?

The first step to figuring out your perfect eyebrow shape is determining what your own face shape is. Some people have very obvious face shapes while other people struggle to work them out. If you are of one of many who still aren’t sure after much research then, I would suggest that you look directly into a mirror and then (using something which can easily be removed afterward such as lipstick) lightly trace around your face shape onto the mirror. Take a step back and you should be able to see the outline of one of the following face shapes within this guide to then work out what brows will suit you best:

What brow shape is best for my face shape?

1.  Face Shape: Round Shaped Face

How it looks: Your face is widest at the cheeks, but your cheekbones are not prominent, and the width and length of your face are the same. Round faces usually tend to have a small forehead.

Best eyebrow shape for you: A lifted and high arch is best for a rounder face shape to help to lengthen and add structure to the face. The higher the arch, the more flattering it will look.

2.  Face Shape: Long Face Shape or Oval Shaped Face

How it looks: An oval shape or long shape is similar to a round face shape but appears longer than it is wide. There is minimal definition around the jawline.

Best eyebrow shape for you: A straight line brow or brows with a soft arch will look better to help give the illusion of a shorter face length and look overall more balanced. All aspects of the brow should be shaped the same rather than some parts being thicker or thinner. You may need to add width by using makeup.

3.  Face Shape: Square Shaped Face

How it looks: Your forehead, jawline, and cheekbones are all a similar width to create a ‘square’ like face shape.

Best eyebrow shape for you: A strong brow for a square face shape will cause balance for your already strong features. However, if you don't want to draw attention to the square shape then the golden rule is that you should opt for soft, curved brows with not too much of an arch or angling.

4.  Face Shape: Heart Shaped Face

How it looks: You have either a round or oval face shape but have a strong jawline and pointed chin to create that desirable ‘heart’ shape. The forehead may be prominent too.

Best eyebrow shape for you: Full, bushy bold brows can easily overwhelm heart shaped faces so instead opt for balanced, soft, and natural eyebrows that are softly angled with a rounded arch. If you have a round face, choose a sharp arch up to the brow bone. If you have more of an oval face, choose a slight arch.

5.  Face Shape: Diamond Shaped Face

How it looks: The least common of the faces! The narrowest parts of your face will be the forehead, chin, and jawline. Then you will have wide cheekbones that are very prominent creating that distinctive 'diamond' shape.

Best eyebrow shape for you: A rounded and curved brow, either full or neatly groomed, will help to compliment and soften your face shape best. A lower arch will add balance to an irregular face shape.

Now that you know what your perfect eyebrow looks like, this can be very easily achieved by visiting your local beautician to wax, thread, or pluck your hairs in order to carve them into your very own perfect brow style. They can tint the hair too if needed. This is important as it requires skill and a well-trained beautician who will be able to perfectly map out your brows and shape them by knowing where they should start, arch, and end with taking into account your nose, outer corner of eyes, and overall whole face.

What about products?

However, more often than not, we need to manipulate the hair of our natural brows into shape (or your right brow shape might be better than your left and vice versa!) with the help of a makeup brush and some eyebrow makeup. An ultra-fine brow pencil like delilah Brow Line will help to add thickness, arches, and hair where you need it to stencil out your perfect shape. Or, to keep things natural but add width to sparse areas then use a brow gel instead like delilah Brow Gel. The tiny brush head will glide through all of your natural hair, picking up the fair ones and ones you didn’t even know were there along the way. Depending on your skin tone, brow gels are also a great way to darken your brows if required.
