WHAT’S MAKING YOUR SKIN TICK?
Learn how your skin is affected by the time of day.
Have you ever noticed your skin appears to look its best in the morning? Or that you’re skin looks more oily & shiny in the afternoon?
Or at night your skin feels tight & parched?
That's your skin’s circadian rhythm.
In order to maximise the results of your skin care regimen, it's important to use products that work in line with your body’s circadian rhythms.
Morning
During the day, skin will thicken and try to protect itself from exposure to the sun and other environmental aggressors.
So it is important to apply antioxidants & sun protection first thing.
Afternoon:
Sebum secretion increases in the afternoon as the oil glands attempt to make a protective layer, and decreases at night.
Evening:
Water loss is at its maximum in the evening which can cause the skin to feel dry & tight.
To help combat this apply a hyaluronic acid serum after your antioxidant in your morning routine
Bed-time:
Overnight, our skin cells work hard to repair and renew any damage caused during the day.
Use ingredients that stimulate collagen and elastin production like Retinol (vitamin A).
Alternatively for people with very sensitive skin, peptides and/or growth factors can be a good alternative.
It is important to replenish water loss by using moisturisers overnight, as that's when trans-epidermal water loss happens.
So it’s a good idea to use a slightly richer cream in the evening to strengthen the skin barrier which helps the skin to hydrate.
