1 PRIMER
Just like a painter needs to prime their walls before painting, the same applies to makeup. Primers are designed to help any products you apply afterwards adhere perfectly, sit evenly on the skin, and last for the maximum time possible. Depending on the primer you choose, they can also reduce redness, minimise fine lines and even blur enlarged pores! A primer should be applied after your skincare routine and SPF but before any make up.

2 FOUNDATION
Foundation was originally created to cover and perfect the complexion. There are a variety of textures and finishes to choose from but, coverage is arguably the most important one to choose, a light coverage looks natural on the skin and won’t hide features like freckles and moles, whereas, fuller coverage is better for those wanting to cover skin concerns like acne, pigmentation and imperfections. Then, finally, choose whether you want a matte, glowy or somewhere-in-the-middle finish. Regardless of foundation, use a make-up brush for the most flawless, professional finish but opt for a sponge or the warmth of your fingers for a sheerer base.

3 CONCEALER
Concealer is a must-have in any make-up routine! There are two different types, the kind which brightens under the eyes and the kind which conceals imperfections on the face and they are not to be confused! Avoid foundation for these concerns as it doesn’t offer the same amount of coverage or pigment to do the job. Again, use a make-up brush for the most flawless, professional finish or opt for a sponge or the warmth of your fingers to press into the area.

4 BRONZER AND BLUSHER
They are used in the same areas but they are not to be confused for the same thing! When used properly, bronzers help to subtly add warmth, shape and colour to the complexion and, if you like, can make you appear sun-kissed all year round. Bronzers have come a long way over the years and will not make you look orange anymore! Apply bronzers where the sun would naturally hit so think forehead, cheeks and nose, or, mimic a ‘3’ shape on both sides of the face. Then, a blusher adds colour and life back to the cheeks.
Often, your complexion can look a little washed out after applying foundation as it will have taken away any naturally occurring colour in the skin. Cream bronzers & blushers are becoming ever more popular and are a great way for beginners to apply colour easily.

4 BROW PRODUCTS
The features that frame and can transform our whole face. Brows have become more and more popular recently and it isn’t slowing down any time soon. Brow pencils help to mimic real brow hairs but can be hard to get the hang of at first. Alternatively, brow gels are much easier to grasp and instantly (but subtly) defines eyebrows, no matter how fair you are while also filling in any sparse areas.
