How To Choose Between An Eyelash Growth Serum, Mascara, Or Eyelash Extensions

We're sure that you love to frame your eyes with naturally fluttery lashes. But do you know how to achieve it? To be able to flaunt your natural lashes at their best, a variety of products have been created over time by the beauty industry!

If you're looking for fuller lashes, here at Dermacare Direct we have an array of different options readily available to be delivered straight to your door.

You can choose between an eyelash serum, mascara, or eyelash extensions (or even pair them together, for very maximum results).

Each of these products has its own different benefits, so it's important to understand what each one can offer you before making a decision. In this blog post, we'll discuss the differences between each option and why one may be better than the other for you so that you can make the best final choice for yourself.

The Three Options

Mascara

eyelash

This is by far the most popular, most easily accessible, and the product that will give you the most *instant* results out of the three.

If you want a straightforward and uncomplicated option, that you are happy to reapply every morning and in turn guarantee a GLD (good lash day) every time, then mascara is for you. Thankfully, there are lots of different mascaras and brush heads specially formulated to give you the look you want, whether that be naturally longer lashes or super curly lashes.

Containing 75% more mascara than your standard tube, Jane Iredale Longest Lash has a thick, dense wand and is formulated with silk fibers to help coat both the lower lashes, inner corners, and outer corner, all areas that eyelash extensions may not reach, to give you ultimate long lashes and a buildable finish.

If you prefer something more subtle, delilah Day-To-Night (pictured above) is the one for you. This formula took the brand four painstaking years to perfect and as described in the name, it can take you from day to night very easily with just a few more coats over the top of your first application. The slim brush head helps to push the product right into the lash line and catches every fine or fair lash too.

At the end of a long day, treat your eyes to something calming but refreshing such as Eminence Organic Herbal Eye Makeup Remover to remove makeup and all its traces.

Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions have grown in popularity within the beauty industry over recent years and have enabled lash lovers to skip mascara and eye makeup altogether.

If you are not too familiar with eyelash extensions, it involves a process of individual lashes being carefully applied to every single natural lash while also being tailored to your unique eye shape (whether you have hooded eyes, round eyes, or want a cat eye!) by a professional lash technician in order to create your desired look of semi-permanent, thicker lashes.

However, the aftercare advice from lash technicians is extensive and indicates that you must brush them daily with a spoolie brush, avoid rubbing your eyes, avoid getting your lashes wet, and using oil-based cleansers as a makeup remover is a big no-no in order to maximise the longevity and prevent eye infections and allergic reactions, so, if you know you do one of the above, eyelash extensions are probably not for you!

On top of that, you do need a patch test and they require a lot of maintenance as eyelash extensions last only around two to three weeks, depending on your lash growth cycle, before an infill is needed making them arguably the most expensive option out of the three.

Eyelash Growth Serums

Having just recently broken into the beauty market, lash serums are destined to be the next big thing. Have you tried one yet?

Forget traditional castor oil, eyelash serums are a lot more user-friendly and contain active ingredients to strengthen and thicken your own lashes while also quickly stimulating hair growth.

It can take some months of consistent usage before you notice results but once you do.. you will be obsessed.

They are definitely the best option if your main objective is long-term results or you want to improve your own natural eyelashes. It will create a subtle finish rather than something striking and defined.

They are also particularly good if your lashes are damaged from lash treatments. We recommend Revitalash Lash and Brow Masque especially for this.

Eyelash serums can actually be applied safely alongside both mascara and eyelash extensions in order to maximise the results they give but they can also be used alone if you like to look your absolute best, without having to apply makeup at all. Simply sweep once across your upper lash line like eyeliner. The very best and original eyelash serum available on the market is Revitalash Advanced 3.5ml. Which one will you choose?

Now that you know what each of these options offers, it’s time to consider which is the best choice for your budget, needs, and requirements.

Whether you’re looking for a new way to make your eyes pop or are simply interested in something that will last without the need for reapplication, there is an option out there. If you want more natural-looking but customisable results and false eyelashes aren't your thing, mascara might be your best option. On the other hand, if convenience is important to you or eyelash extensions cost isn't an issue, lash extensions may work better. Either way, everybody can incorporate an eyelash serum into their routine and reap the rewards!
