FAQ’s – What’s the difference between Glycolic acid and Retinol ?

Glycolic acid breaks down skin, thereby speeding up the skin renewal process. Retinol communicates with skin cells and encourages the rebuilding of skin. Glycolic acid, an alpha hydroxy acid made from the sugar cane plant, loosens the bonds between dead skin cells making it easier to remove the top layers of skin. Retinol is a form of vitamin A that is so small it is able to penetrate through to the lower levels of skin where collagen and elastin (two proteins in the skin responsible for its elasticity, tone and texture) reside. Retinol is able to actually communicate with the cells, encouraging them to function normally and promote regular cell renewal.

Benefits of glycolic acid:
They promote a youthful appearance of your skin, preventing the dryness and dullness that can occur due to a buildup of dead cells on the surface of your skin.
helps make skin smooth, reduce hyperpigmentation and deep clean the pores.

Retinol Benefits:
Retinol smooth’s skin and triggers collagen and elastin production, which slows as we age.
helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles, smooth fine lines and repair damage from the sun.
Retinol can also help to unclog pores, so it is used in some acne treatments.

I believe that glycolic acid is great for all skin types and ages and retinol is great for non-sensitive skin types, mature and ageing skin types or acne/sun damaged skin types
If you feel you can tolerate both, I would suggest using glycolic and vitamin c in the morning & retinol at night.

If you’re new to retinol and glycolic acid, it’s a good idea to start slowly, once every other day, then once a day then twice a day

Due to both of them increasing photosensitivity it’s important to apply sunscreen daily
