Confused about Skincare ? See if our answers below can help:

Question:- In the past I have spent a fortune on anti-aging skincare products and not really seen a great difference. Are cosmeceutical products better?
Answer:- All the products on our website are Cosmeceuticals products ( Professional skincare) that cannot be bought on the high street, only from cosmetic clinics. These professional grade products have been scientifically researched and tested to ensure they actually have an effect on the skin. High street cosmetics selling anti-aging products containing antioxidants, peptides and retinols don’t contain high enough percentages of these active ingredients to make any real difference to the skin. Also they are often stuffed full of chemicals, which irritate the skin.

Question:- I would like to know the difference between the AHA’S
Answer:- Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) products gently exfoliate the skin and in addition to removing dead surface cells, they cause the cells to work more quickly to reproduce. As you age, skin cell regeneration slows, causing lines and wrinkles to form. These products cause skin to act "younger." This improves the appearance of wrinkles and helps prevent new lines from forming. The removal of the dead surface cells also helps prevent/eliminate breakouts, smooth fine lines and wrinkles, improve tone, texture and overall appearance. Alpha Hydroxy Acids are ideal for use with other products since they can enhance the penetration of ingredients into the skin.
Glycolic acid products are more suitable for those with mature, sun damaged, oily ,acne prone and non-sensitive skin.
Lactic Acid is ideal for those with slightly sensitive, dull skin, lack of suppleness, dry, mature, uneven pigmentation and fine lines and wrinkles.
Mandelic Acid is a gentle acid especially recommended for skin that is intolerant to other alpha hydroxy acids.
Salcyic Acid is a Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) that works mainly as an exfoliant, so an effective treatment for oily /acne skin types, especially if AHA products left their skin dry and irritated.

Question:- I am looking for a good sunscreen for oily skin ,any suggestions?
Answer:- The Helicare - Advanced anti-aging UV protection is a great range. For Oily and Acne prone skin I would recommed the Heliocare gel SPF 50 or SPF 90 gel

Question:- I am interested in purchasing a i.skin microdermabrasion system and was wondering if it will help with my dull complexion and how often would I need to use it?.
Answer:- The i.skin system will help achieve smooth, even-toned, healthy-looking skin,
- Enhances overall skin clarity and brightness
- Reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, skin discoloration and pore size
- Hydrating cream contains professional quality curondum crystals
- Innovative technology for professional results
I would start off by using the system 2 or 3 times a week for a month , then when you really see a difference , then use it on a monthly basis. It is a great alternative from visiting a clinic/salon regularly for a resurfacing procedure microdermbrasion treatment or peel (and alot cheaper!)

Question:- I have been using Jan Marini products for sometime now and I am very pleased with the results. I suffered from acne as a teenager and was left with acne scars and dark marks and the products have really improved my skin tone & texture. I have been using: CLEANSE -Bioglycolic facial cleanser - to exfoliate and loosen dead skin cells.(AM & PM)
REJUVENATE- C-Esta serum - to lift, firm and tighten skin.(AM & PM)
RESURFACE- Bioglycolic Bioclear lotion - resurface and improve skin texture.(AM & PM)
HYDRATE - Age Intervention face serum - to moisturize and hydrate.(AM & PM)
PROTECT- Daily Face Protectant SPF 30 - to protect.(AM)
I am now for some reason started to suffer with breakouts, I don’t want to stop using any of my products, is there any other Jan Marini product I can use to help.
Answer:- You could try the popular Age Intervention Transitions. You can either apply it before or after Bioclear. If you notice a little dryness, stop using the Bioclear just for a few days untill the dryness subsides then continue with Bioclear again.

Question:- I ordered the Bioglycolic facial cleaner, Bioclear cream and Transformation serum to help with my acne/oily skin. I used the cleanser for the first time last night and then put on the cream and my skin went red and felt hot, so I washed it off . I haven’t got sensitive skin is this normal when using these products for the first time?
Answer:- This can happen with glycolic products. I recommend you start by using one Bioglycolic product first once a day, then as the skin acclimates increase to twice a day and then start adding other bioglycolic products as well.
Start by using cleanser once a day for a few days , then increase to twice a day, then after a week use bioglycolic Bioclear cream once a day after cleanser , then after a few days use all products twice a day. If you still have problems try a lactic Acid or Salcyic Acid instead.

Question:- I have sun spots on my face and hands and they seem to have got worse after my holiday. I have read that a product called Hydroquinone helps to fade marks, is that right?
Answer:- Products that contain Kojic acid helps correct melanin pigmentation and are suitable for hyperpigmentation , melasma, chloasma, age/sun spots etc Studies indicate that Kojic acid shows greater effectiveness than Hydroquinone based bleaching preparation with less sensitivity, side or long-term complications. Please don't forget to wear sun protection to prevent any further pigmentation spots appearing.(SPF 30 or above) A regular resurfacing procedure (microdermbrasion treatment or peel/mask) will also help to reduce pigmentation.

Question:- I would like to try priori products range, but not sure which ones to use, any ideas? I am in my forties and have normal skin and no real skin concerns, just want to keep my skin looking good and help keep the wrinkles away!
Answer:- The Priori cosmeceutical is a great range. Start off with Priori Advanced AHA range first. Priori Idebenone range is Ideal for people who have reached a plateau with their current skincare regime and want more.

Question:- What’s the difference between the two types of hydroxy acids? Alpha & beta.
Answers:- Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) are exfoliants derived from fruit and milk sugars such as glycolic acid produced from sugar cane and lactic acid produced from milk. There is only one beta hydroxy acid - salicylic acid. Beta hydroxy acid works mainly as an exfoliant. The Difference Between Alpha and Beta Hydroxy Acids: The main difference between alpha hydroxy acids and beta hydroxy acid is their lipid (oil) solubility. Alpha hydroxy acids are water soluble only, while beta hydroxy acid is lipid (oil) soluble. This means that beta hydroxy acid is able to penetrate into the pore which contains sebum and exfoliate the dead skin cells that are built up inside the pore. Because of this difference in properties, beta hydroxy acid is better used on oily skin with blackheads & whiteheads. Alpha hydroxy acids are better used on thickened, sun-damaged skin where breakouts are not a problem.

Question:- I am interested in the omnilux light therapy for wrinkles, as it is quite expensive, i want to know if I will get any results from it?
Answer:- The Omnilux light therapy helps improve fine lines & wrinkles, skin tone and clarity. The Omnilux Light therapy is a very popular treatment used in cosmetic clinics (same company that makes the hand held) You normally have a course of 9 treatment at the clinic (3 per week for 3 weeks) , then 1 treatment a month for maintenance. For special occasions perform the treatment 1-2 days before hand. The cost for each treatment is around £55 , so buying you own hand held home use device would be a good investment and you can use it as often as you like.

Question:- I suffer from Keratosis pilaris, What products do you recommend I should be using?
Answer:- Keratosis pilaris is most often seen on the upper arms and shoulders. Keratosis pilaris responds well to glycolic and Salcyic Acid products. Try Jan Marini Bioglycolic oily skin cleansing gel , which can be used as an all over body cleanser. Also Bioglycolic body scrub & Bioglycolic hand & Body cream. You could also try Sesderma Azelac Body lotion as it contains 2% Salicylic acid and contains properties to ease inflammation.
