What is AcneStar® ?

AcneStar® is a natural acne prevention treatment and works by shining light to change a chemical called Porphyrin that is produced by the bacteria P. Acne, which in turn kills the bacteria. This then leads to the calming down of the inflammation and clears the acne.

AcneStar® employs light emitting diodes (LED's) to produce blue light. The blue light lies in the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum. It is the blue light at a specific wavelength within the electromagnetic spectrum that destroys the bacteria that are the fundamental cause of the development of this condition.

AcneStar® is a unique hand-held unit approximately the size of a mobile phone and is extremely easy to use.


AcneStar® utilises a bank of light emitting diodes (LED's) that are permanently fitted into the unit. The LED's have an extremely long life (typically 10,000 hours) and will never need to be replaced.

The AcneStar® is powered by a mains electricity adaptor, which in turn provides a low voltage (DC) power supply to the unit itself and therefore makes it very safe to use.

Directions:
1. In the evening, clean your skin using an anti-bacterial face wash and pat your skin dry.
2. Place the transparent window of the AcneStar® flat and directly in contact with the acne.
3. Switch on the AcneStar® by pressing the on/off button.
4. Apply gentle pressure on the AcneStar® to make sure that it is pressing against the skin.
5. Leave AcneStar® to shine on the skin for a few minutes before moving it to an adjacent location. Severe acne will need a longer treatment time.
6. Keep moving AcneStar® every few minutes to eventually cover the whole face. For mild acne, this should last about 30 minutes.

When should I see the results?
Clinical trials have shown that on average the acne spots will begin to dry up after four days of continuous use. However, to get the best result you should continue to treat the same area for at least two weeks.

When should I stop the treatment?
You should only stop treatment when your skin is completely cleared of the acne. For mild acne this will only take two weeks but severe acne may need much more time.

Will the acne come back?
Once the acne is cleared, they may not come back for weeks or even months. However, if your skin is still producing too much sebaceous oils, you skin can be re-colonised by the bacteria P. Acne and thus cause the acne to flare up again. If this happens then re-treat yourself as soon as possible at the mild stage so that the acne will be cleared again within two weeks.

Can anyone use Acnestar?
AcneStar® is a very safe and natural treatment for acne. However, if your skin suffers from light sensitive disease you should ask your dermatologist first before using AcneStar®.
- Vitiligo, or loss of skin pigmentation.
- Do not use AcneStar® if you are taking oral retinoids, such as Accutane.
If you are epileptic, please consult your doctor before using AcneStar®.

It is advisable that you DO NOT share your AcneStar® with anyone else. The use of AcneStar® involves contact with the skin that may transfer bacteria if shared.


Limitations of use:
Do not use AcneStar® in the following situations:
- Very light sensitive skin i.e. a condition called polymorphic light eruption. This effects approximately 1 in 500 people and presents as a 'prickly heat' type rash with associated itching of the skin, after exposure to too much light.
- Vitiligo, or loss of skin pigmentation.
- High blood pressure.
- Feverish conditions.
- Do not use to treat the lower abdomen during pregnancy.
- Do not treat the genitalia.
- If you are taking oral antibiotics to control your acne do not stop taking them immediately. Wait until your skin begins to clear and reduce the dose gradually under the direction of your doctor.
- Do not use AcneStar® if you are taking oral retinoids, such as Accutane.
- Keep AcneStar® away from children.
- AcneStar® must be kept out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources.
- As with all electrical goods, AcneStar® must not be immersed in water.
- Not to be used in humid environments such as bathrooms.
- If you experience any adverse effects whilst using AcneStar®, stop the treatment straight away and consult your doctor.

If you are epileptic, please consult your doctor before using AcneStar®.
